An AI-generated cinematic proof of concept for the Future Vision XPRIZE

MAX is an AI-generated science fiction film project by Roos van der Jagt, created as a cinematic proof of concept for the Future Vision XPRIZE.

The project imagines a near-future Netherlands shaped by extreme weather, rising water and technological adaptation. At the heart of the story is Zoey, a young woman who lost her little brother Max after a traumatic car accident during a violent rainstorm. Years later, she lives in a flooded Dutch city where an advanced emergency beacon network has been activated to reconnect missing survivors with the people who are still searching for them.

When the system detects a possible survivor match for Max, Zoey’s personal grief becomes part of a larger question: what if future technology could help us recover not only from climate disaster, but also from separation, loss and the fear of never finding each other again?

MAX combines cinematic storytelling with generative AI production. The project is developed through a hybrid AI workflow involving image generation, AI video, visual continuity, voice, music, editing and cinematic direction. The goal is not to use AI as a gimmick, but as a serious filmmaking instrument — a way to create emotionally resonant, visually ambitious stories with new production methods.

Visually, MAX moves between Dutch landscapes, rain-soaked roads, flooded towns, emergency beacon towers, a near-future orphanage and a mysterious rescue craft emerging from the mist. The tone is atmospheric and cinematic, but ultimately hopeful. This is not a story about technology replacing humanity. It is a story about technology helping people find their way back to one another.

The film explores themes of climate resilience, grief, memory, family, reconnection and the ethical role of technology in future societies.
