Lionheart — New Work by Roos van der Jagt at Haute Photographie 2026
In 2026, Roos van der Jagt presents Lionheart, a new photographic and cinematic installation, selected for Haute Photographie 2026 in Rotterdam.
Lionheart unfolds aboard the world’s most expensive private superyacht, a meticulously engineered environment where luxury, power and surveillance quietly coexist. Through large-scale, ultra-HD photographic stills and a central moving-image work, Van der Jagt examines how identity is performed and negotiated inside spaces designed for absolute control.
The series deliberately adopts the visual language of cinema and high-end advertising: precise framing, polished surfaces, impeccable aesthetics. Yet beneath this perfection, tension accumulates. The protagonist — at once muse, performer and intruder — moves through the yacht like a disruption in a flawless system. Each image captures a moment where elegance is strained by desire, ambition or suspicion.
Printed behind plexiglass in a cinematic 16:9 format and paired with a looping film installation, Lionheart operates as a hybrid environment between stillness and motion. The result is an immersive reflection on spectacle, class and the quiet theatre of power, not shouted, but meticulously staged.
With this presentation, Van der Jagt continues her long-standing investigation into visual culture, technology and authorship, bridging classical photographic traditions with contemporary, AI-informed image practices.
